the war prayer

I really liked this writing by Mark Twain.  It is very clear and straight to the point.  this writing seems to be about the feelings of a town in a time of war.  It shows that churches played a big role.  From this writing you can see that church and religion gave pelople a sense of security much like it does in todays society.

the paragraph that starts with "I came from the throne" is my favorite section of this entire writing.  Mark Twains examples are very clear and his point is easy to understand.  Mark Twain says "If you pray for the blessing of rain on your crop which needs it, by that act you are possibly praying for a curse on some neighbor's crop which may not need rain and can be injured by it".  He wants you to think before you pray. Know the whole situation and full consequences of your prayer.

  1. I agree with you professor it was very straight to the point and i like that. i guess that comes from years of public education ;) I agree again that churches do play a big role think about when people first move to a new place and start a town, the first thing they build besides a house from themselves.. is a church.

Another thing and i didn't know how to bring this up in class, we were talking about mob mentality,if you speak against the mob like this old man did you were thought to be crazy and looked down on. I got the feeling on right after 9/11 happened, everyone was full of support and ready to kick some butt we didn't care who's it was. I was right there with everyone in that thinking, but i think if someone would have spoken out against it, maybe said hey we might have to slow down here a bit, they would outcast and thought of not loving their country. Well 10 years later i wish someone would have, we maybe wouldn't be in the predicament we are in now

  2. Are there any real life examples from 9/11 that exhibit your point? And, again, speak up anyway! We'll figure out a way to discuss your points/questions. : )
